PFC John R. Forehand
106th Infantry Division
KIA

PFC Forehand's duffel bag, found in the battlefield, was for sale on eBay, November 2, 2006.  All information here is from that sale.

This 1943 dated WWII US duffel bag was once the property of a Private first class of the 424th Infantry regiment of the 106th Infantry Division. It was found some years ago by a friend in a village near the Schnee Eifel where the regiment was surrounded and has been in my collection since then.

This soldier was not killed in action near Schönberg, but evaded capture and fought on until his death on December 26, 1944 probably in the area of Parker's Crossroads, Manhay or Malempré in Belgium during the actions of the remaining part of his regiment alongside elements of the 7th Armored Division and of the 325th Glider Infantry of the 82nd Airborne.

Pfc. Forehand Reported Killed in Action

Mr. and Mrs. John R. Forehand, Sr., of Metter received word from the War Department Wednesday, January 17th, that their only son and child was killed in Belgium on December 26th, 1944.

John R. was born in Statesboro but had lived here since he was seven years old.  He graduated from Metter High School and attended Mt. Berry where he lived until he decided to enter the service in August of 1943.

He was in the Anti-aircraft and Infantry Division of the army.  His last training was at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

John Ro's mother is the former Miss Jewel Cook.  He was very popular with his circle of friends and with all who knew him.  Another veil of sorrow was cast over everyone on hearing of his death.
