PEABODY - John Nichols, husband of Betty M. (Surels) Nichols, died May 5, 2007 in the Beverly Hospital at the age of 84. Mr. Nichols was born and raised in Peabody, and had lived most of his life in Beverly. He was son of the late Peter and Nicoleta (Vasilopoulos) Nicolopoulos. Prior to his retirement, John had been employed for many years as a logistics manager for the Raytheon Co. in Wayland.
He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the Budleigh Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Beverly, the Washington Chapter, Royal Arch Masons in Salem, was a former deacon of the First Baptist Church in Beverly, a member of the Disabled Veterans , Chapter #84 in Salem, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Pelham, N.H. and a member of the 106th Infantry Division Association.
Mr. Nichols is survived by, in addition to his wife, four daughters, Carolyn Nichols-Chappell of Nashua, N.H., Dale L. Nagle of Florida, Gay L. Goodwin of Florence, Mass., and Robin K. Morgera of Newport, R.I.; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Charles, Arthur, Stella Foustoukos, Chris Weinberg, Beatrice Whalen, and Dora Maravelias.
