1) Captured on 21 December 1944

4) Liberated on 11 April 1945 by
elements of the British Second Armored Division
5) Staff sergeant, was promoted to
technical sergeant just before the Battle of the Bulge
but evidently the paperwork was lost.

7) When captured he weighed approx.
170 pounds. When liberated he weighed a little under 90
pounds
8) Suffered two concussions - one
during the initial battle when the foxhole next to him
was obliterated by German artillery and a second when a
U.S. P-38 mistakenly bombed a barracks the Germans were
holding prisoners in as a field hospital. It was not
marked so definitely not the pilot's fault. He was
sitting on the inside of a wall, the bomb hit outside
the wall and blew it basically over the top of him.
