Local man dies after waiting 63 years for Bronze Star

Paul Langford Chapman of Destin, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Sept. 17, 2008, at the age of 82. A decorated war veteran, he served honorably in World War II as a sergeant in the 28th Infantry Division and was bestowed the bronze star for his heroic efforts in the Ardennes Forest. During his 40 years as division manager of the
mechanical engineering department he also found time to develop his
love of carpentry by crafting various pieces of furniture for his
children. As a young father of five children, he found time to coach
his sons? Little League teams and attend their soccer, hockey and
field hockey games. An avid reader, he shared his passion for books
with his family. Survived by his wife of 58 years Patricia Chapman, his 5 children: Vicki and her husband Vic, Paul, Craig, Jill and her husband Dan, Scott and his wife Lenna, and his seven grandchildren: Lindsey, Meredith, Miranda, Ashley, Sean, Jessica and Brandon. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews By-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 307 Harbor Blvd. at 2 p.m. Sept. 22, 2008.
