Harold A. Clifford, 91, Rockford, formally of Neenah, WI, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Born on February 20, 1918, in Burbank, SD, to Edward and Catherine (Carey) Clifford. Graduate of Elk Point SD High School and earning a B.S. degree from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. Married Betty Solem in Rockford, IL, 1946.

Distinguished WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army, served as First Lieutenant 30th Division in ETO from 1942-1945.

Owner/Operator of Rockford Plating (1952-1967), Chemist at Neenah Menasha Waste Treatment Plant (1967-1985), Commissioner of Sanitary District No. 4 in Town of Menasha for 25 years. Member of St. Gabriel Church in Neenah, WI, St. Bridget Church in Loves Park, IL, and the Knights of Columbus #5511. Harold was committed to the service of his community and country. He was instrumental in the formation of the Town of Menasha Sanitary District No. 4. Harold was also a leader in the establishment and formation of Grand Chute Menasha West Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. He dedicated many hours and contributed financially to the Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Harold was a very distinguished World War II Veteran, decorated with the Purple Heart, two Silver Stars, and the Croix de Guerre with Bronze Clusters (Cross of War).

The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff of both Provena St. Anne Center and Swedish American Hospital for their loving care.

Survivors include, children, Michael Clifford of Las Vegas, Colette Clifford of Rockford, IL, Larry (Mary) Clifford of Brooklyn Park, MN, Kate (Paul) Dale of Beloit, WI, Tom (Barb Hermann) Clifford of Fitchburg, WI, Bob (Georgia) Clifford of Madison, WI, Teresa (Steve) Lipus and Beth (Dennis) Matlock, both of Boise, ID, Clare (Rick Swain) Clifford of West Paris, ME, Ellen Clifford of Minneapolis, MN, Judy (Joe Zolkoske) Clifford of Oshkosh, WI, Jane (Wes) Schoepke of Merrill, WI; 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Solem of Rockford; and "Uncle Duke's" numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by parents; wife, Betty; son, Patrick; four sisters; and six brothers.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2010, at St. Bridget Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, IL. Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. before the service.
