WW II veteran to speak at Oneida County Historical Society
The Oneida County Historical Society will host highly decorated veteran and author Kenneth Thayer for an evening discussion of his experience in World War II.

Thayer, a Utica native and U.S. Army veteran, saw combat with the 30th Infantry Division in Europe. He arrived at Normandy, France a few weeks after D-Day and stayed with the 30th through the end of hostilities in May 1945.


Along the way he was wounded in combat and received the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation's second highest combat decoration behind the Medal of Honor.

Thayer is a retired Air Force civilian employee, having served almost thirty-four years at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome. He has held several offices with The Air Force Association, including the positions of New York State President and National Vice President. He has also served as a Trustee and National Vice President with the Aerospace Education Foundation, and is past President of The Central Association For The Blind And Visually Impaired.

He lives in Westernville, N.Y. with his wife Eleanor. Copies of his book 'The Young Liberators' will be available for sale in the Society gift shop the night of his lecture.
