Stopped penetration of German SS Panzer Division at Stavelot, Stoumont, La Gleize December 17, 1944 (popularly known as Battle of the Bulge). Dad’s regiment (119th) was awarded Battle Honors for action in Belgium from December 19-21.

Dad awarded Oak Leaf Cluster to wear with
previously-awarded Bronze Star for “heroic achievement” near
Hamelin, Germany. I have his citation.

Met Russians at Elbe River at Grunewald,
Germany May 4, 1945
Victory in Europe May 8, 1945
Departed Southampton England SS Gen. Black
August 12, 1945. Arrived Boston August 19, 1945.
Columbia welcomed home its veterans on
Saturday and Sunday, October 26 & 27 with parade, drum corps
completion, fireworks, Mardi Gras, and lunch at State Armory
from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
