Obituary
Richard R. Orozco,
89, of Lorain, died Friday, March 16, 2007 at New Life Hospice
Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a three week illness. He was
born in Mexico, April 3, 1917 and immigrated with his family to the
United States in 1924 and had been a Lorain resident since then. He
was a 1936-B graduate of Lorain High School.
From 1938 - 1983 he was a foreman in the Coke Plant for United
States Steel Corp., Lorain.
During World War II Mr. Orozco served in the Company F, 117th
Infantry Regiment of the United States Army, serving in the
European Theatre, where he was wounded in Germany and was awarded a
Purple Heart. For many years he attended the 30th Infantry
Division Reunion which was held throughout the United States and
Europe.
He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter, Lorain.
Throughout his life he enjoyed woodworking and was an all-around
handyman.
His memberships included the United Steelworkers of America Local
1104 and the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20,
Lorain.
Survivors include two daughters; Virginia (Larry) Porter of Columbus
and Marie ( Dr. David) Snavely of Avon; and one son Dr. Richard
(Karen) Orozco of Cambridge Springs, Pa; 9 grandchildren; Jacob,
Benjamin, Katherine, and Amy Orozco, Megan Porter, Meredith Simon,
Mara Porter, and Nicholas and Adam Snavely.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Margaret (nee
Rottari, 1999); two brothers, Raymond and Ernest; and his sister,
Guadalupe Belch.
Family will receive friends at the Garland-Misencik Funeral Home,
851 Park Avenue, Amherst, Sunday 2-6 P.M. Closing prayers will be at
the funeral home Monday at 9:15 A.M. followed by Mass of Christian
Burial at 10 A.M. at Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501
Oberlin Ave., Lorain.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Military rites will be
conducted by Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Pray Chapter 20
of Lorain.
