Poem in Memory of
Lt David John
330th INF/H

He started out to preach God's word,
He had not time to complete his work;
For his country called him by name
To help rid the world of shame.

He worked long hours for to train
In shelters, sun, snow and rain;
To prepare others to defend our land
In jungle, mountain and desert sand.

He sailed the sea and landed there
Amongst the trees of England fair,
To wait the time when he should line
His sights across the channel's brine.

The time was nigh, he hit the beach,
He clung to earth just like a leech.
All hell broke loose with a spurt.
He ate his meal with much dirt.

His nerve was sure, his spirit high,
Many saw the God-given pride.
He lingered not - for God so willed,
He took him home - his earth's life stilled.

He was one that we all beloved,
True to the One in Haven above.
Long may his fond memory remain,
Only that we all were the same.
