Obituary

Monroe Pearle Bond, Sr., 84, of Oberlin, died Wednesday morning, July 11, 2007 at New Life Hospice in Lorain. Mr. Bond was born September 25, 1922 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident of Lorain County.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Lorain where he sang in the senior choir.

He was employed as a postmaster with the United States Postal Service and retired after 30 years of service. He was the first black postmaster for the city of Wellington. After retirement he worked for three years as an electrician with the Ohio Edison Company.  He spoke three languages.

He served in the U.S. Army in the 92nd Infantry Division, known as the "Buffalo Soldiers,"; serving during WWI and WWII. He was a Technical Sergeant and received the WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, and received an honorable discharge.

He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Carol L. Kenney of Cleveland and Coloma A. Hemphill of Euclid; son, Monroe P. (Cathy) Bond, Jr. of Bexley; sister, Lucy C. Bond of Washington, D.C.; brothers, Dr. James G. Bond of OR, Richard P. Bond of New York, NY and Bruce R. Bond of Boston, MA; great-aunt, Maxine Turner of Oberlin; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Mr. Bond was preceded in death by wife, Margaret Lois Bond (nee Studdard) in May 2006 and parents, Monroe G. Bond and Coloma R. (nee Walker) Bond.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 15, 2007 from 4 to 6 P.M. at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, 2652 Broadway in Lorain.
Graveside services will be held Monday, July 16, 2007 at 1 P.M. at Elmwood Cemetery. Pastor Marie Philips of Epiphany Episcopal Church, Euclid, will officiate. Arrangements by Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, Lorain.
