First Headquarters Here in Farmhouse

First headquarters for Camp Atterbury were established June 1 on the second floor of the Dale Parmalee farm house, the red brick building at School House Road, north of Edinburg Stree, Of the original cadre of camp officers, many are still on duty here. The register of arrivals shows that Col. Welton M. Modisette, camp commander, was first here, signing in on May 28, 1942. However, Maj. (then Capt.) Charles C. Boatright, post transportation officer, has been here since early May. First of the staff officers to arrive June 1, included Col. ClarenceQueen, Major (then Capt.) J. C. Frame, Capt. (then 1st Lt.) Taylor C. Smith and Capt. (then 1st Lt.) Robert S. Thomas arived. 1st Lt. Jown W. Conner also was one of the first arrivals in the quartermaster cadre, coming here as a master sergeant.

Capt. (then 1st Lt.) Oscar E. Dinnis signed the register June 6, as did 2nd Lt. Harold K. Anderson, 2nd Lt. Stanley W. Maryonwski, for quartermaster assignments. Capt. (then 1st Lt.)Maurice O. Nordstrom of the Quartermaster Corps, also arrived on June 6. 1st Lt. harry D. Weller led the arrivals on June 15. With him from Ft. Know, Ky., came Capt. LeRoy L. Wahle, Maj. R. E. Copeland, Capt. O. J. Peeling and Maj. C. W. Smith. Maj. (then Capt.) Lowell G. Schweickert came from the Lexington, Ky., Signal Depot.
