The two Bu 181s which later became FE-4611 and FE-4612 were captured at Merseburg or Halle shortly before the end of the war and were taken to the USA aboard HMS Reaper after serving as communication aircraft with Watson's ATI team, base at A-46 Toussus-le-Noble, which was the center for collecting air freight for delivery to Wright Field.  As this operation was closed down, the Buckers were flown to Villacoublay and then Cherbourg for shipment on board the HMS Reaper.  One of these was test flown at Newark AAF on 20 September 1945 by Lt Bob Anspach and was ferried to Freeman Field by him on 04 October 1945.

The Bestmann was at Freeman Field in storage in May 1946; by August it was awaiting disposition.  Its W Nr is shown as 'K-2227' but this appears to be incorrect.  It is now with the National Air and Space Museum on display at Silver Hill.
