France, July 26, '44 Hi Kenny, Well old boss man it's been a long time since I've heard from any of the Grasselli gang or received an Alley Cat, so I thought I better write and agitate a little news from home. My address has changed so much in the last six months I guess it was too much for the main office mail clerks to keep up with. I sure do appreciate the Alley Cat and letters from the gang back at the plant. As you all no doubt read in the papers things are really popping here in France and we hope to bring this mess to a focus soon. Tell your brother Harry and the others that I'll have to substitute Krauts for the Japs I promised them when I left in '42. In fact I fulfilled that promise a couple of days after "D" day when our fighter squadron caught a German motorized column out on the highway. I got about six truck loads full of krauts just as they piled out of the trucks and headed for cover. What a nice strafe job that was. And if Larry Hill still likes to argue about airplanes tell him that our P-51's are so superior to the German aircraft the German air force is afraid to come up and tangle with us. I was lucky when I came over to this theater of operations to bve assigned to the Pioneer Mustang group in the E. T. O. Right now our record stands at 500 kills in the air. So you can see we're doing our share also. Give my regards to all of the boys in the electric shop (including Ben) and tell the boys up front to get on the ball and send me an Alley Cat occasionally. Don't forget to drop me a line yourself in the near future. Regards, "Moe" |
