April 29, 1975 - U.S. Forces pulled out of Vietnam. Just hours after the last American was lifted out by helicopter from the roof of the embassy.

May 7, 1975 - President Ford formally declared an end to the "Vietnam era." In Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, the Viet Cong staged a rally to celebrate their takeover.
