198th Tank Battalion The shield is yellow for armor. The chevron, one of the oldest heraldic devices, is used to symbolize the organization's participation in the campaigns which carried the Allies from Normandy across Northern France beyond the Rhine and into the heart of Germany. The chevron is red because the unit was artillery at that time. The dragon, represented as a strong and fierce animal covered with invulnerable mail, is shown as the fighting power used to overthrow a vicious enemy. The magnolia, the Mississippi state flower, indicates the unit's association with the Mississippi National Guard. The tanker's motto is "We Came To Fight". |
