THEME UP AND FADE
TO BG ON CUE |
Announcer |
Welcome again to
the Dixie Airs, a transcribed half hour brought to you each week
at this time by the 31st Infantry Division at Fort Jackson,
South Carolina. Musically, we'll feature the famous Dixie
Division military band and dance orchestra with our singing
star, Private Larry Phillips. So, stand by for Dixie Airs. |
Music |
THEME UP TO END |
Announcer |
A marching band, a
concert orchestra and a choral group. That's quite a
combination, isn't it ? But, it could easily be the
definition of the Dixie Division military band, for today they
will perform in all three categories. First off they play
the role of a fast stepping military band as they open the show
with one of the greatest marches of all time --- The Thunderer. |
Music |
MILITARY BAND -
THUNDERER |
Announcer |
When we mentioned
the role of concert orchestra for the military band a few
moments ago, we neglected to tell you that the Dixie Division
dance band would also perform in this capacity. In fact,
they go all the way to Carnegie Hall to pick their music.
It's a medley of some of the finest music the masters ever wrote
and yet it's also a medley of popular songs of the past ten
years, for all of the songs were classics adapted to popular
music. Led by Private Paul Shultz, the band plays the Carnegie
Hall Medley. |
Music |
DANCE BAND -
CARNEGIE HALL MEDLEY |
Announcer |
We continue in the
concert style as Warrant Officer Maurice Brausa directs the
famous Dixie Division band in Leroy Anderson's, "The Syncopated
Clock". |
Music |
MILITARY BAND -
SYNCOPATED CLOCK |
Announcer |
That was the
Syncopated Clock played by the famous Dixie Division military
band. And not it's time for a song from our singing star,
Private Larry Phillips. Larry goes south of the border to
pick today's selection as he brings us Siboney. |
Music |
PHILLIPS AND DANCE
BAND - SIBONEY |
Announcer |
Thank you Private
Larry Phillips for that wonderful rendition of Siboney.
You're the guest of the Dixie Division on their weekly program,
Dixie Airs, broadcast from the USO in Columbus, South
Carolina. A couple of months ago, we announced on Dixie
Airs, an appeal for letters to our men in Korea. The
response to that appeal was tremendous and we would like to take
this opportunity to thank you wholeheartedly for the support you
gave this appeal. Thank You (APPLAUSE) And now, it's time
to call on that big military band of the Dixie Division once
again. Under the baton of Warrant Officer Maurice Brausa
they play tribute to one of the country's largest newspapers
with the Chicago Tribune March. |
Music |
MILITARY BAND -
CHICAGO TRIBUNE |
Announcer |
That was the
Chicago Tribune March played by the Famous Dixie Division
military band. Earlier in the program we promised a choral
work by the band so we're going to call Warrant Officer Brausa
to the microphone to tell us about the choral work the band is
doing. (AD LIB BRAUSA) Thank you Warrant Officer
Brausa and now we hear Corale by ..... |
Music |
MILITARY BAND
CHORALE |
Announcer |
That was
..............'s Chorale played and sung by the Dixie Division military
band directed by Warrant Officer Maurice Brausa. Well,
we've neglected the Dixie Division dance orchestra long
enough. With leader Paul Schultz wielding the baton, they
break loose with a knocked out arrangement of Georgia On My
Mind. |

Announcer |
Well, that winds up
another Dixie Airs broadcast from the USO in Columbus, South
Carolina. We sincerely hope that you have enjoyed our
music. The Dixie Division military band is directed by
warrant Officer Maurice Brausa and Thomas Leach and today was
under the baton of Warrant Officer Brausa. The dance band
was lead by Private Paul Schultz and our singing star Private
Larry Phillips. Once again, thanks for the response on our
appeal for letters for Korea. Next week we'll be back for
