Discharged 07/06/1946
Obergefreiter Franz Rederich died in 2004.

He was a Corporal ( Obergefreiter ) in the German Luftwaffe during the fighting in Africa. He was captured on Crete and sent to Britain and then to America. There he came first to the prison camp "Camp Campbell" in Kentucky. Later he worked on some large farms in Kentucky, in agriculture.  He was then sent to Camp Atterbury in Indiana.

On 9 July 1946 he was discharged from the German Luftwaffe by the U. S. Army.

He received severance pay of RM 40 and returned on 07/12/1946 back in his home town of "Markt Ergoldsbach " in Lower Bavaria. Only 1946 of the Lower Bavarian-born came to Oberaußem.

Here he and Nelly Mueck, the daughter of farmer Johann Mueck, which he had met during the war in Cologne, married and has lived thereafter until his death in 2004, His family still lives here.

About his time in America and the Farmer, where he was also working, he has always spoken well. He had been lucky.

That is all that he told me.

It's a shame that he no longer lived there - He would have liked his photos on the
website !!!
